Enjoy play!

starting_playWhatever you both like, that’s the way to play. You also don’t need fancy and expensive toys - fun is free and it’s all around you! A cardboard box and a few felt pens, some pans and a wooden spoon, a blanket and some kitchen chairs – all of these make great toys. So instead of throwing them out with the rubbish, turn your old boxes and cartons into treasure.

Try making rockets from water bottles. Or why not grab some old clothes, hats and shoes from your wardrobe and let your child’s imagination run wild? A pirate on the open seas! A queen coming to tea! If your tot has a favourite teddy, building it a bed in a shoebox and tucking him up in tea towel could be fun.

On a rainy day you could pretend the carpet is a crocodile-infested lake and make a path across it by scattering cushions across the floor. You could even pretend to be the snappy chappy himself! When you discover what your child’s favourite games are, you can come up with new ideas together, and there’ll be no end to the fun. The sillier the better – it’s all helping to develop your child’s curiosity about the world.
