Make your own finger paint

What you need:

2 cups of flour
2 cups of water
Natural food colouring*

Empty yoghurt potsplay_finger_paint2

* From about 50p in the home-baking section of your local supermarket.

What to do:

There’s ‘art’ in ‘smart’: finger-painting lets your little one explore how they can use their hands and fingers. It’s also a real boost for your wee one’s confidence when you praise their artwork, and write their name on it, and put it on the fridge for everyone to see!

Making home-made paint is a big part of the fun. Start by adding the water to the flour (your toddler might like to have a go at stirring it). Once it's all mixed together, it can be poured into the yoghurt pots and coloured by putting a few drops of food colouring into each pot.

Now it’s ready for your toddler to create their first masterpiece – just by using their little fingers! For extra fun, you could even put a big piece of paper on the kitchen floor, then take your wee one’s shoes and socks off to make a foot painting!
