Sailboat sandwiches

“The ship that always goes down well.”

What you need:

 Wholemeal pitta bread

Grated cheese

1 small tomato, sliced

1 breadstick

Sliced cucumber

A slice of cooked ham

Grated carrot

Hummus (optional)

What to do:

  1. When your pitta bread is cut in half lengthways, it makes a boat shape. You can pop it in the toaster for a couple of minutes until it’s warm.
  2. When it’s still warm, stuff the pitta with the grated cheese and the sliced tomatoes.
  3. Now you can start making your sailboat picture. Try popping the pitta on a plate and putting a breadstick in the middle of it. Then you can ask your toddler to put a triangle of ham on each side of the breadstick to make the sails.
  4. Now to make the choppy sea! Your wee one will really enjoy grabbing handfuls of grated carrot and putting it all around the bottom of the boat.
  5. For a finishing touch, try showing your toddler how to put some slices of cucumber on top of the pitta boat for portholes. Then you can finish off with a couple of blobs of hummus for clouds.  Lunch is served!
